If your in the UK you may or may not have heard of Radio One’s big weekend. Its basically a free concert with various acts. It has to be free because its organised by the BBC. Which is funded by our licence fees making it advertisement free.
I was lucky enough to get tickets for the Saturday. From what I’ve read hardly anyone in Maidstone received tickets, even the ones who were most inconvenienced - ie had hoards of people walking up and down their nice road littering and generally being disgusting. Seriously how hard is it to carry with you some rubbish to put into a bin. The grass was disgusting by the end of the day - the people on the Sunday will be sitting in old bits of food and god knows what else.
But still - it was amazing. I didn’t think I’d like it at all - I was wrong! :P Saturdays line up was as follows: Madonna, Usher, The Fratellis, Scouting For Girls, Duffy, The Feeling, Robyn, The Hoosiers, Editors, The Futureheads, Guillemots, We Are Scientists, Foals, Vampire Weekend, Paramore, The Ting Tings, Fatboy Slim, Eddie Halliwell, Steve Angello & Sebastian Ingrosso, Annie Mac, Chris Moyles vs Judge Jules, Nic Fanciulli, Kissy Sell Out, Count & Sinden, Dave Spoon, Zane Lowe.
We started off our day watching Zane Lowe who played some awesome tracks on the outside stage.
At one we went to the main tent to watch Usher open - his set was amazing, though as a techie I was looking at the light riggings and sound setups! but then I’m a loser.
After Usher we went back to the outside stage and watched Chris Moyles vs Judge Jules (Who was in the venue the night before!) It was amazing! Makes me love Chris Moyles even more lol. We danced like crazy!
My friend spent hours pouring over the radio one photos - she found us! It looks like we’re really far away but really we weren’t lol
After Chris Moyles we Sat in the sunshine for a little bit listening to Duffy and then headed into the tent for Scouting for Girls who were absolutely Amazing. I’m considering seeing them in concert again, although it could be because I’ve decided the lead singer is fit :P
and then the Fratellis - who were DEAD on stage! I’d not heard most of their songs either. Plus by this point a lot of the people in the tent were waiting for Madonna - even though she was 2 hours away! They wanted to get to the front which would be a feat and a half because it took us SO long to get out! So nobody was really in the mood to dance around - though they did when songs people knew came on. My feet were hurting so much by then I just wanted to sit down and cry!
Phew After the Fratelli’s we left, we were exhausted and I have to be honest, putting some of the acts in a stupidly designed tent was more than a little irritating! Unless you were looking at a screen or RIGHT at the front you couldn’t see anything, because not only was it on a hill with the stage up higher when you were at the edges you had whacking great pillars in your line of sight. grr.
I bought an awesome t-shirt :) Its all colourful!
Just like my toe!
I kicked the back of some guys trainer just as I was going through security. It hurt SO much! Serves me right for wearing flipflops! I cleaned it up when I got back and took the nail off the next day - looks much better now!
It didn’t hurt at all when I took the nail off though. I’m surprised I didn’t faint - which goes to show I don’t faint at the sight of my own blood so ner paramedic!
