I finished uni on Friday, two weeks after Easter weekend. I was planning on leaving on the Friday but a mate of mine managed to get hold of a power mac g4. He came round so we could be childish and obsess over it!
It has 128mb RAM, 400Mhz processor and a 4.5gig hard drive. For comparison purposes my 4 year old Dell pc originally had 512mb ram, 3.06Ghz processor and 1 80gig hard drive. It now has another 250gig harddrive and 2gig of ram.
This was our first attempt at booting it up. I don’t know what we expected, I didn’t have my os installation CD’s with me so we couldn’t really do much except go oooh ahh when it booted!
I left for home on Sunday, in snow, proper stormy snow. I was so desperate just to get home though it didn’t matter. It wasn’t that bad actually, in some places in Kent the snow was 6/7inches deep. It didn’t settle on the road though and I just drove carefully – as always. As soon as I hit Surrey the sun came out. I was just glad there wasn’t snow on the m25.
I then tried installing osX on the mac. It didn’t work but then I didn’t expect it too.
I got hold of a copy of os9 though, and low and behold, it worked! I wanted os8 but I couldn’t get it. I’m working my way backwards through mac os’s. Though I don’t imagine any mac to pc switchers will do the same! (is there such a thing as a mac to pc switcher!?) Imagine going back to windows 95 now! (actually I can because I still use it on my IBM laptop!)
Question now is, what do I do with it! I can’t connect it to the internet yet, I don’t have an airport card. What would you use it for!?

Retro goodness :)
I’d probably just sit and stare at the prettiness. But that’s just me.
Your Mac looks real spiffy. Nice to see it on the floor too, haha thats where mine will be when I actually get around to purchasing it.
Wow I’m surprised that it actually booted ^^ if I were you I would also have stayed back and look at how the little gizmo will be doing to itself. Hang, crash, stall or something? Hah. Anyway it’s unbelievable that it’s still snowing over there – the weather must be crazy this year. Where’s spring? :X
Congratulations for getting OS9 installed. Well you can fool around with it, and go crazy over the vintage GUI. Speaking of which, I feel motivated to dig out that chunky desktop in my basement that doesn’t even have Windows installed – it runs directly on MS DOS! :P
