Do you think children/babies should be allowed to have their ears pierced?

No :( I think it’s cruel and the parents’ defense is what? The baby won’t remember it?? Why would a BABY want to have pierced ears. I will wait until my child says “Yes, I would like that” before I go sticking unneeded needles in their bodies.

I have heard one parent actually say that they did it to make their child more pretty. MORE PRETTY?? It’s kind of like those moms who live their dreams out through their daughters in child beauty pageants. Makes me sick!

I had my ears pierced for the first time when I was only about 2 months old and my mom re-pierced them for the next few years after that. Now I never have to worry whether my piercings will close and I never had to worry about the pain either because I was too young to understand that fear and pain.

i love it and I don’t think that my mother tried to live out her dreams through her daughters by piercing her girls’ ears when they were just babies. it’s better in the long run anyway since I don’t have to ponder whether or not to get my ears pierced and wait a few years to get earrings or at least until I have the courage and permission to pierce them. But it depends on each individual. For me, being able to wear earrings is important. I love my earrings :D

No, I don’t think so. I agree with Mimi, if I had a child I’d wait until they told me that they wanted their ears pierced before I got it done.

It’s a culture thing. In my family, the girls’ ears aren’t pierced until her Christening. I got mine pierced at 9 months, and my nieces at 4 months. I don’t remember the pain (but I knew the pain when I got my second hole), and if I were to ask my nieces, they probably wouldn’t either. It wasn’t to make us look pretty or anything; it can be looked at as a rite of passage.
