My dad came home for lunch yesterday, he came upstairs and told me there was a dead cat on the road outside our neighbours house. Naturally I was quite upset by this, all I could think was what can we tell the owners! (My worst fear is something happening to my cats, and my parents lol)

My dad put on his marigolds and got a piece of paper to write down any information on the collar. He went outside – as he did so I was watching from the front door, then I thought, my dad doesn’t have a very good track record at being able to tell if somethings dead or not.

He came into my room when I was about 14/15 and told me that my hamster, Domino was dead. I was very upset at this news. I’m not very good with dead things but I wanted to see him before we buried him in our little graveyard by the shed – all the dead bird and mice have their own tombstones – bricks left over from our house. I went into the kitchen and there he was, a little black cuddly thing in the sawdust of his cage – I looked a little closer, he was still breathing! The house had been so cold he’d started hibernating!

After I mentioned his lack of ability to tell if something is dead or not, my dad looked around the hedge and sure enough – no dead cat! Ten minutes later he went back outside to check! Just to see if the ‘dead’ cat hadn’t gotten up and walked away!

Just like Jem, I sometimes have to get up and poke my puppy since I’m afraid that he stopped breathing, or so it looks anyway :P

To be fair to your Dad, I know Hex sometimes lies in the sun on a windowsill or whatever and I have to go up and poke him to make sure he’s still alive, because he just doesn’t move :S

Wow it seems to me like your dad is a little oblivious, adorably so, at times. I’m sorry that he scared you though because I have to say that whilst I was reading it I was a little scared of what was to come!!! I’m just so relieved that there was no death though!

Heh, reminds me of Life of Brian and the old man being thrown in the plague victim’s wheelbarrow – “but I’m not dead yet!”…. Bang!

I’m just waiting for the day that your dad decides to right his track record on dead/alive diagnosis by helping things towards the light…. “I think there’s a dead cat outside, I’ll just take the shovel and give it a tap/thump to make sure”

I cringed when I read the title :blank: but thenafter listening to what your dad deems an animal is dad made me wonder whether the cat was really dead or not. And it isn’t! ^^ teehee. My father was the exact opposite of yours – I had a pet fish when I was 13 and one day he told me rather excitedly that my fish has gone into ‘hibernation’. And hell no it wasn’t – it was dead. But I guess he didn’t think it was dead because the fish didn’t float upside down. It wasn’t passing motion for the past week and I guess all the food that got stuck inside weighed it down or something :X I bured it under a chili plant, an alternative to a tombstone.

In one way or another, dads are always the funniest when they’re not trying. During the days when I was searching for which university scholarship to take, dad came into my room and exclaimed that there’s one that has only 2 years of… ‘BONDAGE’ after completion of my studies. I was literally laughing my butt off :D
